Red Rock Climbing Center is the closest gym to Red Rock Canyon and the one built around rope climbing. The gym says its long roof routes help build the stamina you’ll want for Red Rock sport and trad routes.
Routes come down on a posted rotation, so you’ll know how long you have to finish a project.
Nevada Climbing Center
- Address: 3065 E Patrick Lane, Suite 4, Las Vegas, NV

- Walls: 25+ top rope walls, 35+ lead routes, 6 top rope auto belays, bouldering area
- Source: Nevada Climbing Center
Nevada Climbing Center calls itself an affordably priced, inclusive gym, and its day pass is the lowest in the valley. Auto belays make it the easiest place here to climb ropes without a partner.
Its site lists indoor lead climbing and lead belaying, so it’s also a place to learn to lead before heading outside.
The Refuge Climbing and Fitness
- Address: 6283 S Valley View Blvd, Suite C, Las Vegas, NV 89118

The Refuge is the valley’s bouldering and board gym. If you like steep, powerful problems or want to train on a board between Red Rock trips, start here.
No reservation needed. Staff give new climbers an orientation, per the gym’s first-time page.
Coming soon: The Pad in Summerlin
The Pad Climbing plans a large rope and bouldering gym at 9400 W Sahara Ave, in a former movie theater, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Opening date, hours and prices: check site before you go. The Pad’s old Henderson gym (formerly Origin Climbing) closed at the end of 2024, per The Pad.
Which Las Vegas gym fits your climbing style
- Long sport routes and Red Rock prep: Red Rock Climbing Center. Practice straight arms and hip turns so the long routes feel less pumpy.
- Learning to lead or climbing solo on ropes: Nevada Climbing Center, with lead routes and six auto belays.
- Steep bouldering and boards: The Refuge. If you swing off on overhangs, read why you barn door and how to stop it.
- Slab and footwork: The Refuge sets slab through overhang. Red Rock sandstone rewards trusting your feet, so practice smearing and 17 footwork drills.
- Kids: The Refuge has a kids area with auto belays; Nevada Climbing Center has a lower child day pass.
Beginner tips for Las Vegas gyms
- Sign the waiver online before you arrive.
- Bouldering needs no partner or belay test. Ropes need a belay check, and lead needs a separate test. Read Belaying 101 first.
- On hot days, go early or late; the gyms stay open until 9pm or later.
- Bring your own shoes if you have them. Rentals cost extra at all three gyms.
- Before working hard problems, read the sequence from the ground. Our post on beta reading shows how.
- New to it all? Start with our indoor climbing guide for beginners and what to know before your first gym session.
Nearby outdoor climbing
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits just west of the city, with sandstone sport, trad and bouldering. Sandstone is fragile after rain, so check local guidance and Mountain Project before you climb. The gyms are the backup on wet or very hot days.
