Salt Lake City Climbing Gyms: Day Passes, Walls and Which One Fits Your Style
Salt Lake City has eight climbing gyms in the city and the south valley: five Momentum locations, two from The Front, and Salt Lake Bouldering Project at the Granary. For tall ropes and lead, go to The Front SLC, The Front South Main, Momentum Millcreek or Momentum Fort Union. For bouldering only, try Bouldering Project or Momentum Trolley Square. Adult day passes run from $20 to $39.
Last checked: Oct 28, 2026. We checked each gym’s name, address, hours, day pass price and wall types against the gym’s own website. Anything marked “check site” wasn’t listed clearly there, so confirm it before you go. Prices and hours change, and holiday hours differ.

Which Salt Lake City gym fits your climbing style
- Long, pumpy routes and lead: The Front SLC (walls up to 70 ft) or Momentum Millcreek (50 ft lead arch). Work on straight arms and resting on big holds so you have gas for the top.
- Crack and Indian Creek prep: Momentum Millcreek has crack climbing. Pair it with taping fingers.
- Comp-style boulders: The Front’s Monobloc resets every Friday with four-point starts and zones.
- Board training: The Front SLC has the biggest board lineup; Trolley Square and Bouldering Project suit short board sessions. Warm up and build tendons first with exercises to prevent tendon injuries.
- Steep, powerful bouldering: Bouldering Project or Trolley Square. If your feet keep popping, read why your feet cut loose on overhangs.
- Climbing with kids: Momentum Climbing Academy, or any Front location where youth 5 and under climb free.
Beginner tips for Salt Lake City gyms
- Fill out the waiver online before you go. The Front asks adults for photo ID when they sign.
- Top rope needs a belay check at every rope gym here. Read Belaying 101 and how to belay with a GriGri on top rope first, or book an intro class.
- If you’re new, start bouldering. No partner needed, and the minimal gear for bouldering is just shoes and chalk.
- Salt Lake sits around 4,000 ft. Visitors from sea level may tire faster on the first day, so keep the first session easy.
- Spend the first 20 minutes on easy problems and practice smearing and the tripod position. Then try 17 footwork drills.
- For a full rundown, see our indoor climbing guide for beginners and what to know before your first gym session.
Nearby outdoor climbing
Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons start on the city’s southeast edge, with quartzite and granite cragging and bouldering. Joe’s Valley, a well-known sandstone bouldering area, is a few hours south. Check Mountain Project for current access and conditions before you go.
